Real Madrid dig deep to reach their fourth UCL finals in 5 years

Defending champions Real Madrid progressed to their third consecutive UEFA Champions League finals they defeated the German champions Bayern Munich in an exciting semi-final tie.

After losing the first leg 2-1 in Munich, Bayern had to defeat Madrid at the Bernabeu to reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League but could only manage a 2-2 draw as the Los Blancos clinched the victory on 4-3 aggregate.

The German giants made a brisk start to the game as they scored in the third minute, courtesy a goal from Joshua Kimmich from six yards out.

Though Bayern couldn’t hold onto the lead for long as a fine cross from Marcelo found Benzema waiting inside the box, who headed the ball inside the net to equalize for the Los Blancos.

A second goal for Madrid came at the beginning of the second half, when Bayern’s shot stopper Sven Ulreich made a horrendous mistake that allowed Benzema to simply tap the ball inside the Bayern net.

Bayern’s on-loan player from Real Madrid, James Rodriguez equalized for Bayern after the hour mark to set up a dramatic final 30 minute.

The Bavarian giants had many chances to win the match but couldn’t capitalize on them. Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Keylor Navas made some crucial saves and interventions to keep Real ahead in the tie.

The Los Blancos will be either facing Liverpool or Roma in the final in Kiev, Ukraine on 26th May. The Merseyside team had won the first leg 5-2 and are the favorites to face Real Madrid in the finals of the UEFA Champions League.
