Top 5 Indian Cuisine Dishes

India is a diverse country and is well-known for its culture and cuisine. It is known for its diversified cuisines as we go from one region to other. Different regions have different specialties owing to their differences in topography and climatic conditions. There is a huge variety of all delicacies like starters, mains, and desserts. The highlight of Indian cuisine is that it has extensive use of spices and flavours that gives it an enhanced taste and leaves an aromatizing impact on everyone.

1. Punjab’s Makki ki Roti with Sarson ka Saag

Sarson ka saag and Makki ki roti is the heart and soul of Punjab’s culture. It is everyone’s favourite and is the signature delicacy of Punjab. This delicious and nutrient-enriched meal is prepared during winters, especially on the occasion of Lohri. This mouth-watering meal is generally served with jaggery, white butter, and lassi.

2. Tamil Nadu’s Dosa and Sambar

South Indian dosa has popularity all over the world. It is a thin pancake made with rice. The fermented batter gives an enhanced taste. It is served with different kinds of chutney and sambar and is known for its aroma and flavours. Even though it is made with simple ingredients, it has a very exquisite flavour. There are different types of dosa like paneer dosa, onion dosa, rawa dosa, kara dosa, Mysore dosa, and masala dosa.

3. Rajasthan’s Dal Baati Churma

This is the hallmark dish of the state. Baati is both a hard and unleavened bread that is made in Rajasthan’s desert locations. Baati is renowned for its extended shelf life and the fact that it takes little water to prepare. It’s always served with mouth-watering dal (lentil curry). Dal is produced from lentils, and on the other hand, churma is a roughly ground wheat combination that is mashed and cooked in ghee with jaggery or sugar.

4. Bihar’s Litti Choka

Litti chokha, a Bihar specialty, is the ideal meal to showcase the state’s delicacies. Litti is a filled dough ball laminated in desi ghee and roasted till done, whereas chokha is a combination of baingan (eggplant), tomatoes, potatoes, and a variety of spices.  It is a nutritious meal with cooling characteristics owing to sattu that will keep you energized all day.

5. Hyderabad’s Biryani

Another gem of Indian cuisine is the royal Hyderabadi biryani. Biryani is the queen of dishes and is prepared differently in different nooks and corners of India. It originated in India with the invasion of Mughals. Biryani is a composition of long-grained rice infused with aromatic spices like saffron and topped with lamb, poultry, fish, or vegetables and a rich sauce. The dish is then covered and the lid is fastened with dough before the biryani is cooked over low heat. This is known as dum biryani. The types of biryani include Lucknowi biryani, Sindhi biryani, Mughlai biryani, Delhi biryani, Calcutta biryani, and Malabar biryani.
