Results: Premier League Midweek Fixtures, Gameweek 14

The midweek fixture of the Barclays English Premier League saw 8 teams going up against each other on Wednesday. Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace locked horns at the Falmer Stadium while Leicester City and Tottenham were up against each other at the King Power Stadium. The other two fixtures saw Watford hosting Manchester United at the Vicarage Road and West Brom hosting Newcastle United at the Hawthorns.

                              West Brom 2-2 Newcastle United

 

The match between Brighton and Palace ended in a stalemate with no team being able to break the deadlock. What happened at the King Power was something that wasn’t really surprising but surely very few would have seen that coming. The Foxes beat the Spurs 2 goals to 1, in an absorbing encounter. Jamie Vardy and Riyadh Mahrez chipped in with two brilliant goals while Harry Kane bagged one for the Spurs. With this win, Leicester City jumped up to the 9th place in the league table while Spurs remained at 5th.

 

The Red Devils faced the Hornets at Vicarage Road and what followed after the kickoff was a series of goals in the first half. United were 3-0 up in the first thirty odd minutes, courtesy two fine strikes from Ashley Young and 1 excellent finish from Anthony Martial. Though the Hornets got two back in the final quarter of the 2nd half, courtesy a penalty strike from Deeney and one goal from Doucoure. United then went onto score another one late in final minutes of the game to seal the match and travel back with 3 points in the bag.

 

Probably the most thrilling encounter of the night, the Baggies hosted the Magpies at the Hawthorns. The match had its ups and downs with West Brom going up by 2 goals in the 56th minute of the game. What followed then was a hard-fought comeback as the Toon Army got one goal back at the hour mark, courtesy a goal from Ciaran Clark. The comeback was completed after Matt Richie’s free kick in the 83rd minute was deflected in by Jones. The match ended in a draw, with both teams settling with 1 point each.
