It is better to decide early in life what you want to be or which career you want to opt for. If you are interested in medical science and want to establish a career in the same. Then, you must complete 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. If you are interested in Engineering then you must complete 10+2 in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry.
If you are interested in the innovation of technology, then B.Tech. is definitely a good choice. But, if you are interested in gathering knowledge of the evolution of life, biological functions, and effects of various drugs on the human body then you should pursue an M.B.B.S.
B.Tech. Vs M.B.B.S. Duration
A Bachelor of Technology program comes with a designed curriculum of four years. While the duration of an M.B.B.S. program is five and a half. It is mandatory for M.B.B.S. students to undergo 12 months of rotational internship during their academic program. Students enrolled in B.Tech. program can undergo an internship in a related field during the semester breaks.
MBBS Vs B.Tech. Admissions
There are numerous colleges that offer a B.Tech. degree in various specializations. There are limited colleges that offer an M.B.B.S. program. Lakhs of students graduate each year with an engineering degree. But, it is not the same for M.B.B.S. We can consider that the competition for enrolling in the M.B.B.S. program is tough due to the limited number of availability of seats. Appearing in NEET and qualifying is compulsory for enrolling in the M.B.B.S. program. Admissions to B.Tech. courses are provided through JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores.
MBBS Vs B.Tech. Entrance Examination
Students who want to enroll in an M.B.B.S. program are required to appear in NEET. While admissions to B.Tech. are offered through JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores.
Besides these national-level entrance examinations, several universities also conduct entrance examinations to offer admissions in M.B.B.S. and B.Tech. courses.
M.B.B.S. Entrance Examinations
AIIMS EE: All India Institute of Medical Science Entrance Examination
PGIMER EE: Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Entrance Examination
JIPMER EE: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research Postgraduate Medical Entrance Exam.
B.Tech. Entrance Examinations
SRMJEE: SRM Joint Entrance Examination
VITEEE: Vellore Institute of Technology and Engineering Entrance Examination
BIT SAT: Birla Institute of Technology and Science Aptitude Test
IPU CET: Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test
B.Tech. and M.B.B.S. Specialisations
There are numerous specializations of the Bachelor of Technology academic program. Students can choose any of the specializations according to their interests. The curriculum, fee, and career opportunities vary for each specialization. The major B.Tech. specializations are
Aerospace Engineering
Agricultural Engineering
Automobile Engineering
Computer Science and Engineering
Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence
Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in Big Data
Civil Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Electronics Engineering
Electronics and Communication Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Construction Technology
Architectural Engineering
Metallurgical Engineering
Geotechnical Engineering
M.B.B.S. stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. There are no specific specializations offered in M.B.B.S. program. It includes a combined curriculum based on a basic study of all the human organs and their treatment required to become a professional doctor. Individuals who want to specialize in the treatment of a specific organ are required to opt for a postgraduate degree program M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or M.S. (Master of Surgery).
MBBS Vs. B.Tech. Fees
The average fee for B.Tech. program varies depending on the specializations. It costs nearly Rs. 3 to 5 lakh annually for B.Tech. degree program. The average fee for an M.B.B.S. program is Rs. 5 lakh per annum.
MBBS Vs. B.Tech. Salary
The salary offered to B.Tech. graduates vary depending on their specializations. A freshly graduated Mechanical Engineer could earn anything between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000 per month. The average salary of a freshly graduated electronics engineer is Rs. 32,000 per month. The average salary offered to B.Tech. graduates in Computer Science and Engineering is Rs. 586,000 per annum. Fresh graduates of the MBBS program get an initial salary of Rs. 20,000 to 35,000 per month. The salary increase with experience.
Opportunities in Abroad
B.Tech. become a very common degree these days. Lakhs of engineers graduate each year but there is a massive shortage of doctors in India. Abroad countries also have a huge demand for Indian doctors. Countries such as the U.S.A., U.K., Australia, Singapore, and Middle Eastern countries offer alluring pay packages to Indian doctors with a postgraduate degree such as M.S. (Master of Surgery), M.D (Doctor of Medicine) or D.N.B. (Diplomate of National Board).
