Spurs captain Hugo Lloris was stopped by the police in West London and has been charged with drink-driving.
In the early hours of Friday, a routine patrol in Gloucester Place stopped the 31-year-old French international.
Hugo Lloris has been at White-Hart Lane since joining the London side from French club Lyon in 2012. Lloris has featured in 256 games for the Premier League outfit.
The Spurs captain has apologized for the incident and said that It was “completely unacceptable”.
“I wish to apologize wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters. Drink-driving is completely unacceptable, I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.” said Lloris.
Lloris was the French captain when the won the 2018 World Cup in Russia. This was the Les Blues second triumph at the world stage.
Lloris has been released on bail and is due at the Westminister Magistrates’ Court on September of 11th, 2018, said the Metropolitan Police.
The Spurs have kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory against the Magpies and a 3-1 victory against the Cottagers.
Tottenham face Manchester United at 20:00 BST on Monday.
