It’s a bad time to be DeMar DeRozan. From being the top seed in Eastern Conference to getting swept away by LeBron James again in a tumultuous playoffs series. From the star of an organisation to being lied to and traded for a player who, according to several reports, doesn’t even want to be in Toronto. It’s safe to presume DeMar DeRozan is less than amused about the things that transpired during this offseason after he expressed his feelings via Instagram stories. The Shooting Guard, who averaged 23 points and 5.2 assists last season is going to move to the West to play for one of the most respected organisation in the history of the sport, the San Antonio Spurs. It will be interesting to see how DeRozan and the Spurs fare off in the competitive West. The four time All Star isn’t a great defensive player Kawhi Leonard is but offensively he can be just as great. And playing in the San Antonio system under Gregg Popovich will surely make him a more efficient player than he already is.
The trade will definitely boost San Antonio’s chances to make the playoffs. The Spurs managed to win 47 games last season without Leonard who was unavailable due to a quad injury. Adding a player of DeRozan’s calibre along with Aldridge and Rudy Gay will see the last two years of Popovich’s tenure competing for a championship.
