A suicide car bomber blew himself at a checkpoint close to the parliament and interior ministry in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Sunday, yet the number of casualties was not promptly known, police said.
Nur Mohamed, a Mogadishu cop, disclosed to Reuters the bomb went off at the intensely monitored Sayidka checkpoint.
A Reuters photographer at the scene saw destroyed autos and three-wheeled bikes overturned by the force of the blast.
There was no quick claim of responsiblity. The al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militant group carries out frequent bombings and other attacks in Mogadishu in a campaign to topple Somalia’s Western-backed federal government.
No less than 14 individuals were killed when al Shabaab set off a bomb outside a bustling Mogadishu lodging on Thursday.
