The Los Blancos secured their place in the final eight of Europe’s elite competition, the UEFA Champions League. They defeated favorites PSG in both legs of the round of 16 match to keep their hopes alive for a third consecutive European title.
After winning the first leg 3-1, courtesy 2 goals from Ronaldo, Real Madrid just needed to secure a draw. But it was Ronaldo again who scored a brilliant header from a Lucas Vasquez cross to extend Real Marid’s lead to 4-1.
PSG didn’t help their cause as well, as mid-fielder Marco Verratti was sent off for two bookable offences.
Though the French side did get a goal back after Casemiro’s header hit Cavani and the ball deflected in, giving goal keeper Keylor Navas no chance to keep the ball out.
But it was a humongous task for 10 men PSG to outplay the Los Blancos side who have made the tournament their own.
Once Real scored their second goal, courtesy a deflected Casemiro shot, the tie was sealed.
PSG were without their star player Neymar, who is reportedly out for the rest of the season. Neymar’s absence was clearly felt on the pitch, as the French side were simply not able to breach the Read defense.
With PSG crashing out in the round of 16 class for the 2nd time in as many years, manager Unai Emry’s job is in huge jeopardy.
