Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami charged with domestic violence

Top Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami has been accused of abusive behavior at home following a complaint by his better half.

Police say the 27-year-old quick bowler has likewise been charged under laws identified with attempted murder, criminal intimidation and poisioning.

Mr Shami was dropped from a list of contracted players for the national team declared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on 8 March.

He denied his wife’s allegations earlier this week.

The charges against the player, who has played for the Indian national team 87 times across all formats of the game since 2012, convey jail terms of 10 years or more.
